The compatibility range of PS5 cracking has undergone an epic expansion

The PS5 cracking community has a new Relapse vulnerability. This vulnerability covers a wider range of compatible firmware and provides more stable operation. This changes the situation in which earlier cracking techniques were infeasible and posed very high hurdles.

The compatibility range of PS5 cracking has undergone an epic expansion

The old PS5 was quite limiting and not user friendly for an average user.

For a long time, the jailbreaking and hacking of PS5 have been a niche activity, hardly accessible to ordinary gamers. Sony maintains an annual major firmware update to fix system vulnerabilities and strengthen the security mechanisms of the console. All the various hacking methods exposed by the community in the past all had strict version limitations. The vast majority of methods were only compatible with the outdated firmware from several years ago. The new system basically cannot take effect.
Users who want to hack the console can only search for old models that have not been updated for a long time and have extremely old versions. The supply of old PS5 is scarce and the prices have been inflated. In addition, the stability of the old cracking tools is poor. When the operation fails, the system often freezes, and the longest freeze lasts for 50 minutes. The failure rate is extremely low. All these problems combined have led most ordinary players to give up the attempt to hack.
Furthermore, there is a fatal shortcoming in the previous version of the hack. The current mainstream PS5 games all require the console to upgrade to the corresponding firmware version to run. The outdated cracked firmware version is too low and does not support new games at all. The hacked console only plays old games, greatly reducing its practicality.

Added the Relapse vulnerability and increased coverage for compatible versions.

On Tuesday, there was a major breakthrough in the PS5 hacking community. The new vulnerability, code-named Relapse, was officially disclosed, turning the landscape of the industry upside down. The firmware compatibility threshold of this vulnerability is greatly relaxed compared with previous tools, and its adaptability can be said to be the strongest ever. The Relapse exploit is compatible with all PS5 consoles that have a firmware version earlier than 13.6.
The latest official update was version 13.6, released in July this year. After the 14.00.00 new firmware from Sony in mid September, a lot of consoles were still on 13.6 and below. This means that the vast majority of PS5 systems that have not been updated to the latest system recently, can be successfully jailbroken. The cracking is within the scope of the first generation thick console, the new Slim thin console and the high-end PS5 Pro, as long as the firmware version meets the requirements.

The old solution is much less operationally efficient.

The attack chain for the Relapse vulnerability is very simple and well known. It utilizes the age-old WebKit security vulnerability within the PS5's browser. This browser vulnerability serves as the breakthrough point. After obtaining the core privileges, the tool will automatically install the ELF loader. This loader is the core component for jailbreaking, allowing the host to freely run various custom codes and achieve system permission unlocking.
The improvement in version compatibility directly resolves the game adaptation problem that has plagued players for years. Previously, cracking the console could only allow playing old games, while new works could not be launched due to firmware version restrictions. The 13.6 firmware adapted by Relapse is the mainstream game adaptation version this year. Currently, the vast majority of PS5 games on the market have a mandatory firmware requirement lower than 13.6. This means that the jailbroken console can run various new and old games normally, with high practicality.
The emulator is one of the most popular features. The cracked PS5 can run multiple retro game emulators. Currently, one of the ultimate goals of the PS5 community is to achieve the deployment of a complete Linux system. At present, a complete Linux system only supports the extremely old firmware of 7.61 and earlier, and has not been adapted to the new version covered by Relapse. However, with the public disclosure of new vulnerabilities, subsequent developers will continue to adapt and iterate, and the Linux deployment of the new version firmware is likely to be implemented soon.
